- To add fractions with unlike denominators, get equivalent fractions until fractions have common denominators.
- Add the fractions.
- Add the whole numbers.
- Simplify the answer by regrouping.

- The total amount of cheese is 5 19/20 after converting to equivalent fractions and adding the fractions, 3 4/20 + 2 15/20.
- Example 1 3/10 + 2 2/5 = 3 7/10 after equivalent fractions are found and added.
- Example 2 1/4 + 2 2/5 = 4 13/20 after equivalent fractions are found and added.
- Example 3 4/5 + 2 3/10 = 6 1/10 after equivalent fractions are found and added.
