Church and the Holy Spirit
- Holy Spirit gives life, unifies and moves to ministry in the Church
- Three activities of the Holy Spirit in the Church:
-
Gives Life:
- "It is the decision of the Holy Spirit, and ours too, not to lay on you any burden beyond what is necessary” (Acts 15:28).
-
Unifies:
- Prepares us to accept Christ
- Draws us to him
- Opens our minds and hearts to Christ’s words and deeds, especially His passion, death and resurrection
- Makes Christ present, especially in the Sacraments
- Reconciles and puts us in communion with God
- We experience the Holy Spirit in preaching the gospel, celebrating sacraments, and deepening our faith through new life of grace
- Holy Spirit calls us to share in building the People of God
-
Moves to Ministry:
- The Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP II) states that the Holy Spirit is the principal agent of evangelization.
- Continuously brings the work of Christ to perfection
- Precedes, accompanies, and fructifies the work of the Church
- Impels each individual to proclaim the Gospel
- Causes the word of salvation to be accepted and understood in the depths of consciences
