Football Positions Overview

Quarterback (QB): Acts as the field general; responsible for calling plays, initiating action, and handling the snap. Can either hand off to a running back or pass to a receiver, and also has the option to run with the ball.

Upback: Provides protection for the quarterback and may also receive the snap during plays.

Linebacker: Positioned behind defensive linemen, often regarded as the best tacklers on the team. Typically, three or four linebackers are utilized per play, playing a crucial role in both run and pass defense.

Snapper (Center): Responsible for snapping the ball to the upback or quarterback, initiating offensive plays.

Running Back: Mainly lines up behind the quarterback; responsibilities include running the ball, catching passes, and providing blocking support during plays.

Left Guard: Primarily responsible for protecting the left side of the offensive line, preventing defensive players from getting through.
