• To cope with these changes, companies often use scenarios to develop a view on the future.
• Scenarios can be used to gain information and even knowledge about the future, which can be used to adjust the innovation process (if necessary).
• However, little research has been done so far into how the future should be incorporated into innovation processes.
• Therefore, the research question of this paper is: How do commercial organisations use scenarios in innovation processes?
• Two case studies have been carried out to answer this question.
• The cases were researched by interviewing employees, studying documents, and participating in group discussions.
