Classes of Antibodies
- The five classes of antibodies are IgG, IgE, IgD, IgM, and IgA.
Location of Antibodies
- IgM: Found in blood plasma.
- IgA: Present in blood plasma, milk, tears, saliva, and mucus.
- IgD: Located in the protein of the plasma membrane of B cells.
- IgG: Found in blood plasma and can cross the placenta.
- IgE: Located in the plasma membrane of mast cells and basophils.
Functions of Antibodies
- IgM: Comprises 10% of antibodies; involved in agglutination and complement fixation, particularly anti-A and anti-B activities.
