General Orders of a Sentry
- 1st General Order: Take charge of the post and government property in view.
- 2nd General Order: Walk the post in a military manner, staying alert, and observing everything within sight and hearing.
- 3rd General Order: Report all violations of orders enforced.
- 4th General Order: Repeat all calls from posts farther from the guardhouse.
- 5th General Order: Quit the post only when properly relieved.
- 6th General Order: Receive, obey, and pass on orders from specified officers only.
- 7th General Order: Engage in conversation only in line of duty.
- 8th General Order: Raise the alarm in case of fire or disorder.
- 9th General Order: Call the Officer of the Deck for any instances not covered by instructions.
- 10th General Order: Salute all officers and Colors and Standards not cased.
- 11th General Order: Be watchful at night and during challenging times; challenge all persons near the post and allow no one to pass without authority.
