    10 Herbal Medicines Approved by the DOH

    • Legal basis: Republic Act No. 8423 (Phil Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care - PITAHC)

    Lagundi (Vitex negundo)

    • Uses: Cough, asthma, fever
    • Preparation: Decoction (boil raw fruits or leaves in 2 glasses of water for 15 minutes)

    Sambong (Blumea balsamifera)

    • Uses: Anti-edema, diuretic, anti-urolithiasis
    • Preparation: Boil chopped leaves in a glass of water for 15 minutes until one glassful remains. Divide decoction into 3 parts, drink one part 3 times a day.

    Yerba Buena (Mentha cordifolia)

    • Uses: Muscle pain, arthritis, rheumatism, cough, headache
    • Preparation: Crush fresh leaves, squeeze sap, massage to painful areas with eucalyptus

    Tsaang Gubat (Carmona retusa)

    • Uses: Mild non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
