Ohm's Law

  • Ohm's Law relates electric current (I), voltage (V), and resistance (R) in a circuit
  • I = V/R (current = voltage / resistance)
  • V = I*R (voltage = current * resistance)
  • R = V/I (resistance = voltage / current)

Electric Current Formula

  • I = ΔQ / Δt (current = change in charge / change in time)
  • ΔQ = charge in coulombs (C)
  • Δt = time in seconds (s)

Calculating Electric Current

  • To calculate electric current, you need to know the voltage and resistance of the circuit
  • Use Ohm's Law to calculate current: I = V/R
  • Alternatively, use the electric current formula: I = ΔQ / Δt

Examples

  • A circuit has a voltage of 12V and a resistance of 4Ω. What is the electric current?
    • I = V/R = 12V / 4Ω = 3A
