Original Pilipino Music (OPM) fits this definition it has its beginnings in 1970s, when rock music began to be written using local languages as did the then popular Juan Dela Cruz Band. Soon after the mixing of Tagalog and English (TagLish) lyrics became the mode in songs like the Hotdog Band’s “Ikaw ang Miss Universe ng buhay ko” and Sharon Cuneta’s “Mr. DJ” became the hits of the day Filipino Rock musicians like Freddie Aguilar would later add folk music and other influences as typified by Aguilar’s “Anak” which became the most successful Filipino recording both locally and internationally In the succeeding decades until today, OPM would dominate the local music industry and would have its version of punk rock, hard rock, heavy metal, alternative rock, and hiphop. LITERATURE - Contemporary Philippine Literature is a thriving field despite the censorship of the Martial Law years (1972-1986) - Filipino writers continued to wield their pens and expressed their opposition to Marcos dictatorship this resulted in the rise to a new wave protest literature - Freedom fighter writers challenged Martial Law and its repression in their essays, stories, and poems that were of course circulated clandestinely But even with the restoration of democracy in 1986, “Protest Literature” continued to be relevant as many of the social, political, and economic structure that contributed to inequality in the Philippine society remained. The first thing the class must discuss is the subject of your artistic creation. DRAFT A PLAN - Once you have decided on the subject of your creative project, talk about how will the message be effectively conveyed to your audience. Which option is the most creative but practical? Who among you can perform which particular task? What local resources or material can you use? The challenge is to tap your own talents and skills and use materials that are readily available in your community so that expenses are kept at miminum. COME UP WITH A SCHEDULE - Time is the most important resource that the class should consider. The group should also consider the feasibility of their plan in the given time of the subject teacher. FORM COMMITTEES - Forming committees will be a vital factor to ensure that everybody is involved and engaged in the process of creating the integrated performances.a STICK TO YOUR SCHEDULE - Remember that you are running on a finite amount of time as well as resources. Everything that needs to be added or removed should be within your capacity as students to work it in. ENJOY THE CREATIVE PROCESS -Creating an integrated artwork will not be easy, but make sure to have fun discovering what you and your classmates are capable of accomplishing when your hearts and minds are focused on a common goal.
