# STUDY GUIDE Unit 5: EVENTS LEADING TO REVOLUTION ### French and Indian War - The French and Indian War was fought between the French and the British. - It was also known as the 7 Years War. - The conflict was over land in the Ohio River Valley. ### Washington Story ### Effects of the French and Indian War 1. The French lost all of the land in North America. 2. The Proclamation of 1763 said that the colonists were not allowed to move west of the Appalachian Mountains. The colonist were angry because they felt this land was promised to them. 3. Britain was in a large amount of debt. 4. The colonists felt more united after they came together to help win the war. ### Tax Acts 1. **Sugar Act** - The British wanted to find businessmen guilty of smuggling by searching ships. - The colonists who went to trial felt that their right to a jury of their peers was ignored because the trial was only held by a military court. 2. **Quartering Act** - The colonists were forced to provide food and shelter to British soldiers. 3. **Stamp Act** - A tax was placed on all paper goods. - This act was repealed. 4. **Townshend Act** - A tax was placed on all imported goods and Writs of Assistance allowed for universal searches. - The Act was repealed. ### The Boston Massacre - An angry mob of colonists threw snowballs and rocks when in front of a customs house. - Five colonists were killed. - Crispus Attucks a freed slave was one of the first victims of the war. 5.**Tea Act** - A monopoly was created to save the East India Company from... ### 6.
