Student Leadership Team Launch 2025 Welcome to the 2025 Student Leadership Team Launch. We are excited to bring the information to you today. After the presentation your CP will share this with you and also provide you with an electronic copy of the SLT policy and the Quality OSG Student Persona for your reference. SLT 2025 Launch Page 1 of 17 Student Leadership @OSG Leadership is defined as the act of being a positive role model for the positive benefit of others. At OSG Student leadership is defined as the act of being a positive role models for the benefit of others. We are very invested in growing the future leaders of businesses and organisations within your secondary years enabling you to be an early asset to the work places you belong to. Like everything at OSG there is alway room for improvement and the SLT arena is no different. In 2024 we kicked off the school year with all students hearing from Mike Clark. All year Mrs. Frank and I have talked about the final year's students leaving a legacy. Lets talk through what a legacy is - it is not just a Subaru - it is not about lunches, or stickers, it is about making a lasting difference to your culture on campus. So that everyone WANTS to be there. Your actions/projects impact positively and make a difference to everyone. The focus on having those younger than you, and younger, I am referring to those students in Years 3 through into secondary looking up to those on the SLT, as role models, regardless of your age or gender, and see you as change agents as people they aspire to be like. So, before we get into the mechanics of the SLT for 2025. If you are a SLT member currently - next year will look different in terms of meetings and also responsibility that you may have experienced this year. SLT 2025 Launch Page 2 of 17 You need to know that now so that when you set up for an application you are hitting the mark for what is needed to be achieved and how you should be working to achieve it. SLT 2025 Launch Page 3 of 17 Expectations Students elected to the Student The OneSchool Global Board support an Leadership Team at each executive team known as the Student Campus are expected to be positive Leadership Team (SLT) comprised of student leaders and role models for all students in accordance with the School Ethos and leaders within each Region. Guiding Principles They are the voice of the student body and are there to make a positive difference to the School environment. Students elected to the Student Leadership Team at each Campus are expected to be positive leaders and role models for all students in accordance with the School Ethos and Guiding Principl es They are the voice of the student body and are there to make a positive difference to the School e nvironment. The voice, this means we want to see future SLT hearing from Y3-13 students and engaging regularly (meaning twice a term) with them to hear and action their ideas. SLT are expected to be positive leaders and role models for all students From the perspective of your Campus Leadership team, meaning the CP and Deputy or assistant CP we are wanting to see the following from you. Deeds not words. Think about what this means. What you do when no one is looking. What you say when a staff member is not in ear shot. How you make a positive difference to everybody, not just those in your circle. SLT 2025 Launch Page 4 of 17 What would others say about you? SLT 2025 Launch Page 5 of 17 Portfolios Events Well Being Learning to Learn Marketing and communications As I said earlier things in 2025 will look slightly different. The portfolios are the same, however if you take on a portfolio, we want you to think of yourself as not just the portfolio holder, but the project manager for this portfolio. You will be leading projects across the year with teams that YOU create from across the campus. Not from the SLT or your year group. Across the school This role will see you raise the profile of your portfolio and utilize the skills in others to run projects through from conception, strategic planning, revising, adapting and executing. Finally evaluating the impact of your leadership. This year we have met as a regional NZ/ARG team of SLT across the year. In 2025 we will do this but will be more specific and strategic about bringing the portfolio holders together. Events only, or Wellbeing only. We are also going to be reviewing performance of impact through our RP visits to determine if the impact of portfolio holders is making an overall difference to all areas of the campus. SLT 2025 Launch Page 6 of 17 Who can apply for SLT? Students in their final years ** Committed to and are continuing to succeed academically. Contributing to positive student leadership Have excellent attendance, prepared and organized for all classes. Uphold and promote the OneSchool values inside and outside of the campus. Lead by example. Performs well in the selection process So, who can apply Yes, there is some very clear criteria. You must be... Full time students at the Campus. You need to know that whilst it is Preferable that SLT members are selected from the final years. A Campus can select students from Years 10-12 if they are the best qualified candidate and especially if the campus is so small that the Y12-13 group are limited to only a few students. Anyone in these year groups who wish to apply still need to meet the following attributes. Committed to and are continuing to succeed academically. This does not mean you need to be a M&E or if I'm talking Cambridge - someone who achieves A*, but someone who is dedicated and receptive to always working to achieve their personal best. Successful candidates will be contributing to positive student leadership. They will have excellent attendance, prepared and organized for all classes. They will uphold and promote the OneSchool values & Student Persona inside and outside of the campus. These students will lead by example. And finally, the ideal team member will perform well in the selection process. SLT 2025 Launch Page 7 of 17 We are after High Performers. As I said this does not mean you need to be an Excellence or Cambridge A* student. Attitude is what we are looking for too. SLT 2025 Launch Page 8 of 17 How many SLT members? Campuses with 30 to 120 students = 4 to 8 Campuses with 120-300 students = 8 How many will each campus have on their SLT? As you see here if you are in a campus that is smaller you will have 4 team members. The only campuses which will automatically have 8 SLT members elected are Auckland, Maungaturoto and Palmerston North. For those with a satellite campus such as Dunedin where Year 3-6 are situated without an onsite SLT, you will need to actively plan and state how you will incorporate active engagement from across both campus sites. The majority of you will see 4-8 members per campus, but if the selection group of ideal team players is limited, your number will sit at 4 and potentially be made up of students across year groups. SLT 2025 Launch Page 9 of 17 Which portfolio is best for me? Communication & Marketing Well being Attracting Customers Learning to learn What I'm going to share now, you can find word for word in the policy and I encourage you to think through where your passion lies. A Players = High Performance we will see extreme levels of engagement and much more. We are all about High Performing Teams and we are excited to invite you to be part of one. SLT 2025 Launch Page 12 of 17 20 Measurement 15 & 10 Performance 5 Analysis 0 Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 A Few FAQS Being on the SLT is not a year long position. Nor a right. To ensure equity and opportunity for our students the Student Leadership Team appointment will be on a term/semester basis. This means that the Campuses with qualified students that were not selected to be on the Campus Student Leadership Team for the first term will have this opportunity during the second term. To be qualified these students must meet the same requirements already mentioned earlier. Where campus SLT are not making a difference, it is at the discretion of the CMT and RP to change out those that are maybe not able to commit to their portfolio or there has been a breakdown within the team. this might be partway during a term. The panel who selected the SLT are the same ones who will determine if a member needs to step down. As I mentioned this could be for a breakdown within the team, they might not be able to maintain their studies, or their student persona may not be meeting the expectation of the position. For Campuses that do not have qualifying students in the second term the current SLT members will stay in place if they continue to fulfill the role to the highest level. SLT 2025 Launch Page 13 of 17 SLT 2025 Launch Page 14 of 17 What do I need to do? Read Choose Prepare by ** Present on Maintain DATE Persona Read the SLT policy - make sure you understand it, ask your CP and homeroom teacher questions about any of the key points that do not make sense or you need clarified Determine the portfolio that best suits you. l I suggest talk to the adults in your life that know you well, they might be able to support you in determining your best options. Prepare your application by sending an email to your CP and lead CA indicating you will be putting your name forward for the SLT, then prepare your 3-minute speech Students will then have a designated break time and lunch time to present to the student body & CMT on why they should be selected, in a 3-minute presentation on the **. This selection panel will determine their SLT of choice and send to myself and Mrs. Frank who alongside the Regional Team Leaders of Perry Hazell (ARG) Dan Smith (North Region to PN) and Hamish McLean Wellington to Gore) will sign off on nominations. Your job will be to uphold expectation that we have of you. No exceptions. A reminder, that if you are selected, you MUST attend the Achievers Forum in 2025, this is a non negotiable.
