Summary
This document describes the architecture of a Series C system, focusing on the components and connections. It details how the control processor (C300) interfaces with Fault Tolerant Ethernet (FTE) switches and other devices, including I/O options and communication methods. The document also mentions the connection of Allen-Bradley PLCs via ControlNet.

Series C Architecture 28 February 2024 12:00 Different components of Series C Architecture. Let's start with the C300 control processor. The control processor can be single or redundant and must exist on Fault Tolerant Ethernet. C300 connects to the FTE switches through a component called the control firewall. There are two control firewalls. One that connects to the FTE A switch, and one that connects to the FTE B switch. The C300 is connected to both the FTE A control firewall and the FTE B control firewall. Moving forward, C300 controller supports many I/O options. The C300 controller can support two separate I/O links. Each link can support either Process Manager I/O (PM I/O) or Series C I/O. Remember, PM I/O and Series C I/O cannot be mixed on a single I/O link. The Series C Fieldbus Interface Module (FIM) must also connect to Fault Tolerant Ethernet via the control firewalls. The C200/C200E Series A Rack I/O can also be connected to the C300 controller. The rack in which these modules exist is connected to Fault Tolerant Ethernet by connecting a Fault Tolerant Ethernet Bridge module in the rack to the control firewall. Finally, Allen Bradley PLCs can also be connected via ControlNet to a Series A chassis. The rack is then connected to Fault Tolerant Ethernet using a Fault Tolerant Ethernet Bridge module connected to the control firewalls. This allows the C300 to access the Allen Bradley PLC.
