INDIVIDUAL SPORTS What is gymnastics? Gymnastics is a self-motivating activity where one can manipulate the different parts of the body into varied positions or movements. One can do a pike, a tuck, a layout, an arch, a split, and can roll, twist, rotate, etc. the attainment of skills in gymnastics can only be done through proper body preparations especially on strength and flexibility. What are the objectives of gymnastics? Gymnastics is integrated in Physical Education Curriculum for the following reasons: 1. To improve and maintain a physically fit body. 2. To improve efficiency of movement through grace, poise, dignity, form, and rhythm. 3. To enhance creativity through the exploration of new movements and movement combinations. 4. To improve courage, initiative, determination, and perseverance. 5. To stimulate interest and enjoyment of gymnastics. TRACK AND FIELD Ancient Olympic games in 776 B.C.E in Olympia, Greece with only one event. Four main events; long jump, javelin throw, discus throw and wrestling. FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT Court It is rectangular, marked with lines 40mm wide. The lines are preferably white or yellow to be identified easily. FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT Post and Net The post is 1.55 m in height and the net is made of fine cord of dark color and even thickness. It has a depth of 760mm.
