The nervous system is a network of nerve cells that controls many parts of the body, including movement. Parkinson’s can not be cured, and it worsens over time. Causes. There is no known cause of Parkinson’s disease, but part of it comes from genetics. Here are some factors below that scientists think may lead to Parkinson’s disease. Lewy bodies in the brain. (clumps of protein in the brain) An altered mitochondria may lead to PD. Exposes to certain toxins may increase the risk of PD. symptoms Slight tremors in the hand, foot or jaw. Stiffness. Slow movement. Trouble balancing. Speech changes. Writing changes. Fun fact- small handwriting and loss of smell are early signs of Parkinson’s disease. Fun fact- No two people with PD have the exact same symptoms. Treatments. There is no cure for Parkinson’s disease yet, but there are a few ways to improve symptoms. Many different medicines can increase peoples brain dopamine levels to reduce side effects. Exercise and physical activity can help reduce your symptoms. Fun fact- there is no known cure for PD. Fun fact - 10-15% of PD comes from genetics. Prognosis/ disabilities. prognosis- Most people with Parkinson’s disease have a normal lifespan, but the effects on your brain get worse over time. Even though Symptoms will stay with you for your whole life, Many people can still manage to live a normal life even with Parkinson’s disease. Potential disabilities- some disabilities that Parkinson's disease can lead to are memory problems and slowed thinking. Also, bad writing can occur because of constant shakiness. Parkinson's Canada is a good support group that has many different centers for people to see that are located all across Canada, including Saskatchewan. Roughly 30%of people diagnosed with PD will not experience tremors. Parkinson’s disease has many stages.
