Computer and Literature ❖ A grade of Pass indicatesForeign no less than letter grade “C-” on a conventional grading scale. Language: ❖ Pass/Fail grades are not calculated in the GPA. Grades Not Calculated in Grade Point Average! Grade Point Average Computation of the cumulative grade point average includes only those courses taken for conventional grades (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, F, E or FX). The following courses are not included in the grade point average: courses taken on a pass/fail basis; GPAs will not be rounded for purposes of evaluating academic progress toward degree completion (e.g., a cumulative or semester GPA of 1.99 will not be rounded to 2.00). Academic Standing Rules At the end of each semester the academic advisor will review the records of all students and will act according to the following policies, which are summarized below. Grade 10 Students’ transition to Grade 11 is dependent on their subject grades and cumulative GPA. Students who have 4 and more F’s as annual subject grades or Cumulative GPA below 1.00 will be required to repeat Grade 10. Those students who have fewer than 3 F’s are required to seat repeat exam during Summer term and make up for their F grades which means getting at least an E grade in the exam. The repeat exam grade will appear on their transcript under Summer term, but not affect the Cumulative GPA. It will replace the previous annual grade in government electronic systems. Academic Standing Rules In any case, parents and students are recommended to take into account cumulative GPA as well. Cumulative GPA 2.00 and above will be required to pass ADA university entrance at the end of Grade 11. It is student’s responsibility to improve their Cumulative GPA to reach 2.00 and above by the end of Grade 11 in order to qualify for ADA university entrance. Grade 10 and 11 CGPA will be considered for ADA University entrance. Students who were dismissed as a result of Honor Code violation are not eligible for readmission. Grade 11 Grade 11 students (their parents) will receive a written warning for holding under 2.00 GPA and will be notified that their admission to ADA University is under the threat. Assessment In education, the term assessment refers to the wide variety of methods or tools that educators use to evaluate, measure, and document the academic readiness, learning progress, skill acquisition, or educational needs of students. Assessment must serve learning Assessment must present an objective measure of knowledge and skills Assessment must be on-going and through multiple means in the learning process Assessment results must be used by students and teachers to plan corrective action and further learning Assessment There are three types of assessment conducted in the ADA school; - diagnostic, formative, summative Methods of assessment: Assessment methods can be as diverse as the students and teachers in the school. Some of the most common assessment methods are Diagnostic quizzes, essays, presentations, production, verbal questioning, problem sets and examinations. Formative Graded components: Not all assessment done by the teacher is graded. In fact, most of the assessment serves the purpose of pointing out areas of strength and Summative weakness. Only below components will be used as the main activities to formally record student achievement. Diagnostic Assessment Diagnostic assessment is conducted to determine student background knowledge in order to provide the best learning experience. ❖ Happen at the beginning of a unit, lesson, quarter, or period of time. ❖ Goal of understanding student’s current position to inform effective instruction ❖ Identify strengths and areas of improvement for the student ❖ Low-stakes assessments (usually do not count as a grade) Formative Assessment ❖ Teachers conduct formative assessments to find out what students have achieved so that teachers can give further guidance on how to improve ❖ This formative assessment will take the most part of the teaching and learning process and can be conducted in various forms from verbal questioning to project work to sit-down examination. ❖ Overall, this type of assessment comprises 20% of the final grade for a subject. Summative Assessment ❖ Summative assessment is carried out throughout the year in the middle of the semester (Social and Humanities and Natural Sciences) and at the end (in all subjects). ❖ The type of questions that appear in summative assessment test for 1/3 basic recognition, 1/3 understanding and finally 1/3 application of the new knowledge and skills learned. ❖ Grades provided will indicate the level of student achievement in one particular subject. Projects ❖ Teachers and instructors of all grade levels assign projects to stimulate learning in their students. This kind of learning is more of teamwork and collaborative learning ❖ Projects can help boost creativity, knowledge on a subject and future learning. By doing school projects students use what they already know about a subject or what they research about it to create a unique product that reflects what they have learned. Lab Reports A lab report conveys the aim, methods, results, and conclusions of a scientific experiment. The main purpose of a lab report is to demonstrate student’s understanding of the scientific method by performing and evaluating a hands-on lab experiment. This type of assignment is usually shorter than a research paper. Biology Students should read, and sign Lab Contract in order Physics to be able to participate at the Lab Sessions. Chemistry Exams in ADA School Internal Weekly, monthly subject quizzes A midterm exam, is an exam given near the middle of an academic grading term. Midterm exams are a type of formative assessment, to measure students' grasp of the course materials Midterm and identify areas that need work.
