Theory of attraction by Rozenberg Quarterly According to social psychologists, attraction is a force that draws people together. According to Rozenberg Quarterly, you are attracted to someone based on 6 different antecedents or factors. ATTRACTION ANTECEDENTS / FACTORS propinquity reciprocity traits transference similarity physical attractiveness First antecedent The unconscious redirection of one’s feelings from one person to another person. This transfer of one’s feelings happens when you are attracted to someone who reminds you of your father, mother, or of yourself. Transference SECOND antecedent According to Quarterly, sometimes you become attracted to people who are in your neighborhood or to those people whom you are with for a long period like your best friend or childhood friend. Propinquity / mere exposure effect third antecedent You become attracted to a person who has the same hobbies as you. This antecedent promotes intimacy, trust, empathy, and long-lasting relationships. Similarity fourth antecedent You are attracted to someone because that person can participate in the give and take process of your future relationship. Reciprocity fifth antecedent Most of the time you like a person because his or her skin is fair or he or she is tall, handsome, or pretty for you. Physical Attractiveness SIXTH antecedent Refers to the attitude and character of the person. Traits and Characteristics What is the importance of relationship? Love Love Something that is mysterious Powerful feeling that allows you to sacrifice your own happiness for the sake of others. A process You give a part of yourself by understanding, accepting others even if they have shortcomings The persons ability to extend himself or herself for the purpose of nurturing ones own or another’s spiritual growth. Not just taking care about your self but also of the other person. Infatuation an intense but short-lived passion or admiration for someone or something. Infatuation or being smitten is the state of being carried away by an unreasoned passion, usually towards another person for whom one has developed strong romantic or platonic feelings. Keep in mind: Friendship or a caring relationship between two or more people, is an important part of adolescence Real friends are hard to find. They encourage you to do your best, provide support, and help you live your life to the fullest. Being attracted to someone is normal at your age. However you need to deal with your feelings and how you express your emotions of attraction to avoid traps that might affect your academic success. Love is process of helping each other grow and develop to the best that they can be in the relationship.
