Module 1 | Introduction to PRINCE2® 7 Foundation fredag 29. november 2024 16:13 Topics that will be covered: What is a project and what are the characteristics of a project? Features and benefits of PRINCE2 What is project management? ○ What would be considered a project? ○ Aspects of project performance ○ Project context ○ Users, suppliers and business ○ Organizational context ○ Delivery methods The five integrated elements ○ People in PRINCE2 ○ PRINCE2 Principles ○ PRINCE2 Practices ○ PRINCE2 Processes ○ Project context Tailoring a project and a tailoring example What makes a good project QUIZ MODULE 1 ○ PRINCE2 requires “there must be a justifiable reason for starting the project, and the justification must remain valid... throughout the lifecycle of the project.” This is the ‘ensure continued business justification’ principle. ○ Every project is unique... But each one will differ in a certain way. This can mean a different team, customer, supplier, location, or timeframe. All these factors combine to make every project unique. " Every project will be different to previous projects." PRINCE2 Page 1 Every project will be different to previous projects." ○ The ‘manage by exception’ principle reduces time burden for senior management without removing control, by ensuring decisions are made at the right level in the organization. “The implementation of ‘manage by exception’ provides for efficient use of senior management time as it reduces senior managers’ time burden without removing their control. This ensures decisions are made at the right level in the organization. "Decisions to be made by the right people, at the right time." ○ The principles guide how PRINCE2 can be tailored to best fit a project and its context. “To enable PRINCE2 to be used for such a wide range of projects, the method is flexible in how it can be used for any given project. Rather than prescribing what to do to align the method to the specific project, PRINCE2 offers guidance through principles. "They allow the project team to decide how the method should be applied on the project. ○ ○ ○ Which statement about the 'define roles, responsibilities and relationships' principle is correct? - Supplier stakeholders can be external to the organization. “Stakeholders can be individuals or groups within or external to the business... stakeholders outside the business could be trade unions, customers, suppliers, communities, interest groups, banks, or the media.” ○ The project context is one of the five integrated elements of PRINCE2. It influences how “the principles, practices and processes are applied by the people involved to ensure the method is fit for the project context.” "It should be understood by stakeholders so that the principles are applied appropriately." Characteristics of a project 1. Introduce change'are temporary 2. Should involve a multi-skilled team working cross-functionally 3. Each project will be unique 4. Projects always introduce uncertainty Organisational benefits of PRINCE2 1. Universal 2. Common language and concepts 3. Increased organizational maturity 4. Part of an integrated suite of methods 5. Outcome focused 6. Flexible proven PRINCE2 Page 2 6. Flexible proven Seven variables that the project manager needs to control: Delivery methods: 1. Linear-sequential approach: Steps occur in sequence and product is available during or at the end of the project. 2. Iterative-incremental approach: Steps occur iteratively throughout the project. This is also referred to as the agile approach. 3. Hybrid approach: Different elements of the project use a combination of the two previous approches- Agile: broad term for a collection of behaviours, frameworks, concepts, and techniques that go together to enable teams and individuals to work in an agile way that is typified by collaboration, prioritization, iterative and incremental delivery, and timeboxing. There are several specific methods (or frameworks) that are classed as agile, such as Scrum and Kanban. PRINCE2 can be applied in an agile way.
