WELCOME TO MAPEH CLASS! Folk dances- Is developed by people that reflect the life of the people of a certain country or region. classified according to geographical locations and the nature of the dances. folk dances can be: national (dances with common basic movements, with slight variations) local or regional (dances that are unique to certain localities only). BINISLAKAN Dance Culture : Christian Lowland Place of Origin : Pangasinan Country of Influence : China Ethno-linguistic Group : Pangasinense Classification : Social Dance BACKGROUND: Lingayen in Pangasinan means having to look backward and upward. It was derived from “Li-King-Tung”, a Chinese word given to the name Lingayen, the capital of Pangasinan, by the Chinese settlers of this place a long time ago. Background: The barrio folks who lived at Almazin, a small place between barrio Pangasinan (Pulong) and Maniboc danced this to commemorate the stay of Limahong, a Chinese pirate who built his kingdom here. The dancers look backward or upward in some of the movements. Use two sticks to produce rhythms imitating the chopsticks used by the Chinese in eating, so the dance is also called Binislakan, which in Pangasinan means, with the use of sticks. Costume: Women: wears siesgo skirt and a loose blouse with long loose sleeves like a chambra, Men: wears camisa de chino and trousers that may be of any color. DIARY: BRING BARBEQUE STICKS/BANANACUE/ CHOPSTICKS (spare for arnis stick during practice). Label it with name and section.
