Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Inside the 3Shape scanner Two cameras with reduced angle enables impressions, deep inlays and full undercuts to be scanned effectively. The 3-axis motion system tilts, rotates and translates the object facilitating scanning from any viewpoint - more than 350 degrees of a sphere. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scan Calibration Scanner calibration is required for calculation of the internal scanner geometry and camera parameters. It is recommended to calibrate the scanner each time it is moved or at least twice a week. An indication of a poorly calibrated scanner is a scanned model with a rough surface. Caution! Beware that the scanner is a precision mechanical device sensitive to temperature and power variations as well as vibrations. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT How to Calibrate Calibration is a simple process and almost completely automatic: Step 1: Click on the ScanServer icon in the system tray The ScanServer window will pop-up Step 2: Press the Calibrate scanner button Step 3: Follow the instructions Follow the detailed instructions that will guide you step-by-step through the calibration process. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scanning models It is important to prepare gypsum dies optimally. using a pear-shaped tool grind an undercut with a height of 1,5 mm and a depth of 0,5 mm directly below the margin line. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT For the Dentist Prepare the tooth without sharp edges. The margin line must be visible in the impression. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT ScanIt Impression Module 1. Physical impression 3. Virtual model creation & CAD 2. Digital scan 4. Physical model ScanIt Impression can scan the vast majority of typical restoration impressions. However, if a prepared tooth has a depth-to-width ratio larger than approx. 1.5, the accuracy in the deepest part of the impression may be marginally compromised. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Digital Impressions Trios InBox It enables dentists to capture intraoral situations directly as highly accurate 3D digital models and send them directly to the labs via TRIOS Inbox Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Importing Digital Scans 3Shape Dental System supports and allows you to model orders with intraoral scans from 3M Lava, iTero and Sirona systems. Right-click the orders listing section of Dental Manager and select Advanced -> Import from the menu: Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Importing Digital Scan II Select one of the external systems from the list under Import orders generated by external system and click OK. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT User Interface Step 1: Define your order To start working with ScanItRestoration you have to first define your order in the Order form Step 2: Start scanning To start scanning immediately: click the Scan button in the order form - this takes you directly to the scanning module. To save your order: click the OK button to save your order in Dental Manager. The new order should now appear in the Dental Manager orders list with the status Created. To initiate scanning, select the created order from the list and start ScanIt Restoration by clicking the Next or Scan buttons in the Workflow bar or right- clicking the order and selecting Next or Scan from the right-click menu. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT On starting ScanIt Restoration the order in the list changes its icon to locked for scanning: Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scan Window ScanIt Restoration window opens up asking you to insert your preparation. 1. Order Overview 3. Scanning window 2. Scanning tools 4. Viewing tools Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Finish scanning After scanning has been completed successfully, the orders change their status from Created to Scanned as illustrated below in the Dental Manager order list. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scan with E-Series Scanner Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scanning Workflow 1) Create a new order in Dental Manager and make necessary settings for a framework bridge in the Order Form. 2) Having completed defining a new order, click Scan button to proceed to the scanning step. This opens ScanIt Restoration window asking you to insert the arch as a sectioned cast model. The sectioned cast should be fixed with its flat bottom side to the black scanning interface plate. It is very important that the object is secured and cannot move during scanning. Both should then be placed into the scanner (the plate will click into the correct position inside the scanner with the help of the fixing spheres and markers on the plate). Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scanning Workflow 3) Close the scanner door and click the Next button to start the overview scan. 4) The initial scan is a rough general scan of the arch. You can now use the selection tools (see image to the left) to select the detailed scan area. The selected area is highlighted in red. Click Next to start the detailed scanning of the selected area. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scanning workflow 5) mark the dies- Once the detailed scan is done, a more clearly defined 3D model appears on the screen. At the next step you are offered to mark the dies for individual scanning. Place the points with the left mouse button on the margin line on the front of the teeth as shown on the image of the sectioned cast model below. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scanning Workflow 6) Scan teeth separately. Next, you are required to scan each tooth separately by inserting them into the scanner as prompted by the software dialog. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Scanning Workflow A warning message may appear when scanning an individual die requesting manual assistance with merging the die to the sectioned cast for higher accuracy. Place one point on a newly scanned die with the left mouse button and the second point at the corresponding location of the scan (the points should be placed in approximately the same area of the die). Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT Once scanning and saving is finished, you can go straight to the modeling procedure by clicking the Design button or you can opt to trim preparation or pre- preparation scan first. When required, you can redo single scan operations, initiating them with a click on overview window. Prof. Daniel Alter MSc MDT CDT
