Disorders of stomach: Peptic ulcer: is a damage (ulcer) in the lining (mucosa) of the digestive tract, typically in the stomach or duodenum, caused by the digestive action of pepsin and stomach acid. Disorders of stomach: Flatulence: accumulation of gas in the stomach or intestines. Disorders of stomach: Hemat-emesis: vomiting of blood Disorders of intestine: Colitis: general term for acute inflammation of the small and large intestines. Ulcerative colitis : Chronic inflammatory disease (ulcer in colon) Disorders of intestine: Appendicitis: inflammation of the appendix. Conditions of the liver: Hepatitis: inflammation of the liver. Conditions of the liver: Hepatomegaly: is the enlargement of the liver. Conditions of the liver: Jaundice: literally mean “yellow” in French. It means yellowing of the skin and whites of the eye Diagnosis of GIT disorders Hemoccult test: A special chemical test to identify blood in the stool (feces). Blood in the stool may have many causes including cancer and haemorrhoids. X-rays and other imaging techniques: 1- Computerized tomography scan (CT): Translates the action of multiple x-ray beams into three dimensional images. X-rays and other imaging techniques: 2- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): Creates images by computer analysis of electromagnetic waves directed into the tissue. X-rays and other imaging techniques: 3- Ultrasonography: Creates images of deep structures of the body by computer analysis of ultrasonic (high frequency sound) waves directed into and reflected from tissues. Medications used to treat the digestive system diseases Antacid: Neutralizes stomach acid Medications used to treat the digestive system diseases Antiemetic: prevent emesis Medications used to treat the digestive system diseases Antidiarrheal: controls loose stools.
