the system unit Grade 5 lesson 2 Inside the sytem unit 0 CPU 1 0 Central processing Unit RAM 2 0 Random access memory Motherboard 3 0 HDD 4 Hard Disk Drive The system unit (also known as the computer case) is the box that contains the main components of the computer, such as the motherboard, the power supply, and more. —system unit 01 Central processing Unit (CPU) CPU cpu also called a processor, is located inside the computer's system unit in CPU socket on the motherboard. Its job is to execute software instructions. The processor determines how fast a computer can execute instructions. 02 Random Access memory (RAM) RAM RAM is a temporary memory that stores data until you save your work on a disk. When you start an application, it takes place in RAM. When you turn off your computer, all the contents of RAM will be erased. We place the RAM in the RAM slot on the motherboard. 03 Motherboard motherboard The motherboard is a place that connects to every part of the computer. It holds the CPU and RAM. 04 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) hdd The hard disk drive is the main data storage device of the computer. All of your programs and files are stored here. The main hard disk is called Local Disk (C:) drive on most computers.
