To Inform Persuade Entertain What's a Paragraph? is a series of sentences that are organized and coherent and are related to a singles topic. Paragraph can contain many different kinds of information which can be fictional prose or non-fiction. You develop a single controlling idea, which is expressed in a sentence called a topic sentence. The purpose of the paragraph-is to express a speaker's thoughts on a particular point in a clear way that is unique and specific to a theme. Persuasive - to convince the reader Narrative Paragraph a narrative paragraph tells a story either real or fictional by introducing a topic giving more details and then ending with a reflection or transition to another paragraph. Structure/format has been a standard format used in visual stories, biographies, and novels. this structure includes (expository, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution or end, and themes) introduces characters and describes the setting. Before the end of the story, the characters overcome the conflict and the reader realizes the meaning of the theme. tells stories that help connect with each other. there written to entertain and to share experiences with a reader. Requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner. Expository writing gives information, opinions, or ideas. This paragraph explains a topic, gives directions, or shows how something happens. It describes a process and moves the reader step-by-step through a method. The exposition often requires research, but it's possible that the writer is able to rely on their own knowledge and expertise. Provides an explanation of a specific topic. Gives facts, reasons, explanations, or examples with supporting details about the topic. At first, it might be challenging to tell expository/informative writing and opinion writing apart. After all, the two types of writing are organized in much the same way with introductions and conclusions as well as main ideas (expository) or main reasons (opinion). A writer attempts to persuade readers to understand and support their point of view about a topic by stating their reasoning and providing evidence to back it up. ○ A claim is your opinion or position on an Issue. ○ Evidence supports your claim; it can include facts, statistics, anecdotes, and expert opinions. ○ Reasons are statements that support your claim; reasoning is an explanation of how you know your evidence supports your claim. ○ An opposing claim is an objection that you anticipate from the opposing point of view. ○ A rebuttal answers the opposing claim and explains why its reasoning is faulty or less important. ○ is written in 3d persona ★ Body paragraphs.
