Collage (the art of making) a picture in which various materials or objects, for example paper, cloth, or photographs, are stuck onto a larger surface. - Batanes artist Pacita Abad - "Blog" - Assemblage an art technique that involves combining different elements, often everyday objects, to create a new work of art. Tagbilaran Artist Omar Dagdayan - "John Lennon" - Sculpture is a form of art that involves shaping or combining materials to create a 3D object. - Photography - an art form that involves capturing light to create an image. o was introduced to the Philippines by the Europeans ### Different Types of Photography - Nature Photography - an art form that captures the beauty and wonder of the natural world through images of landscapes, wildlife, plants, and natural elements - Photography and Reality - Photography can also present reality in its true form Photographic Alteration - Photography can also offer an illusion and this challenges the standpoint of fidelity of appearance. - Mobile Photography - The art of photographing using a smartphone or mobile device - Photojoumalism - a form of journalism which tells a news story through powerful photography. ## MODULE 6 ### Contemporary Design in Art Crafts Folk art pieces are produced by indigenous people, which are utilitarian, as well as decorative. - Barong tagalog - is origins from the Spanish rule in the Philippines. - The fabric was made of piña, jusi, abaca, or banana. - The polo barong is another variety that was designed to be wom at work. - Ilocos - Abel - In Bacolod, trays are made of pandan leaves - Bicol - Rattan - Banig is used for throw pillow cases in Cebu - Cordillera by Ifugaos - Ikat is a style of weaving that uses dyeing process before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design. - Pearis - abundant in the southern part of the country. - Abaca sandals are decorated with colorful beads in Laguna. - Sandals made of buri are found in Bohol. - In Bukidnon, abaca is woven into hats, baskets, and different types of containers. - In Bohol, rapia makes good material for bottle holders. ### Lampshades - Lampshades can be made from native plants such as buri and abaca. Maria Vinecraft, Inc. of Davao City makes lampshades from the amlong vine. ### Tapestries - Tapestries are wall decors that are made of woven fabric. These are common in Ilocos and Baguio City. In Bacolod, the masks are theatrical, comic, colorful, and combined with painted objects. ### Furniture - FURNITURE - pieces in the traditional Filipino house were simple and functional. ### Ito Kish - an interior designer as well as a furniture designer. - His Makati Showroom exemplifies his aesthetics, a contemporary space with Asian elements cutted from years of working in Indonesia and Malaysia as a visual merchandiser, and from his travels as a retailer. ### Vito Selma - a native of Cebu. - His pieces of furniture show wood grain and texture. His lines are very visible, curved, bent, or tied together forming rhythmic patterns suggesting movement, yet the piece is unmoving. ### Kenneth Cobonpue - a world renowned, multi awarded, industrial designer known for his organic designs in natural fibers and materials. ### Cebu, furniture designers - Cobonpue - D'oro Barandino - Debbie Palao - Bernice Montenegro - Ferdinand "Aztick" Villarin - Rodriguez sisters Vikki and Paula ### Niccolo Jose - treats every piece of furniture that he designs as an artwork. - His fumiture exhibition: "Studio 10.10 Exhibit: The Contrapposto Series" ### Maria Erika S. Masalonga - She won first place at the Green Fumiture Design Competition (Student Level). - Solace Rocking Chair, her official entry, is made of woven rattan and abaca rope while recycled aluminum is used as its metal frame. ## MODULE 7 - Jose Joya - air of ceramic plates are painted with the favorite subject, the mother and the child - Pacita Abad - Blue dining plate inspired by Indian pic, Ramayana. - Benedicto Cabrera - "BenCab", had his Mother and Child painted on plate with 500 editions - Jon Pettyjohn - very famous for his creative ceramics. - Clay Ave - Mia Casal does pottery in San Narciso, Zambales. She describes her works as "a deeply personal journey. - Hadrian Mendoza - a stoneware potter, likes making indigenous forms, including expressionist and abstract shapes - Ugu Bigyan - work are inspired by nature. - Pintados - refer to the tattoed indigenous Visayan people. - Paper Art - any art that uses paper as its primary medium. - Cebu artist Mona Alcudia makes papier-mâché decorative tableware. Coffee Painting - any art that uses coffee as its primary medium. - Sunshine Plata had a total of 32 coffee paintings of whimsical images inspired by her dreams of fairies, butterflies, rural landscapes, and sea life - Tuba Painting - any art that uses tuba as its primary medium - Tuba painter Dante Enage collaborated with German artist Alfred Banze and Balay Kalamragan ("House of Enlightenment in the Waray language). - Soil Art - any art that uses soil as its primary medium. - Adelta Kinuyog used complimentary colors blended with gray. - Tattoo Art - Tattoo is a traditional decorative body art popular in the northem region. ## MODULE 8 ### Performing arts - consist of genres in which artists or performers use their voices, move their bodies and relate to other performers, objects or even to the audience. ### Feldman's Typology of Cinematic Forms: - visual, dramatic, and literary components of idea and meaning ### Dance analysis - knowledge of choreography, technical skills, performance skills and rhythm/tempo ### Musical piece - forms, context, and expression. ### FILM PRODUCTION - Lino Brocka - One of the most influential and significant filmmakers in Philippine cinema history. - In 1983, he founded the organization Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP). ### Four Basic Theater Stages 1. Created and Found ## ADDITIONAL ### Art Production ### MIXED AND MULTIMEDIA ART - refers to an artwork that is made from a combination of mediums and materials. - it can be a combination of photographs and paintings or stones embedded on wood ### Techniques Used in Mixed Media - COLLAGE - is an artistic composition of materials and objects pasted over a flat surface and is usually bung on the wall Batanes artist Pacita Abad finds joy in putting together in a creative way the things that are usually neglected, such as buttons, mirrors, shells, and many other things. - ASSEMBLAGE - As the word implies, it is putting together objects and combining them in new contexts. - employs any method of joining or fastening to make a three-dimensional object. - Tagbilaran artist Ormar Dagdayan combines painting and sculpture in his assemblage entitled John Lennon. ### Photography - It was introduced to the Philippines by the Europeans. - In 1875, "there were seven photographers in the country. - Famous for its lessons in creative photography for amateurs and hobbyists is the Camera Club of the Philippines, which was formed under the initiative of Manuel de Cartagena. ### Different types of Contemporary Photography - Nature Photography - photographs enable us to view people, landscapes, places, and objects that we may never encounter in our lifetime. - Nature can be captured in its pure form, just like the photograph - Photography and Reality - Photography can also present reality in its true form. - If words can describe a scene, photography has the power to show it. - Photographic Alteration - Photography can also offer an illusion and this challenges the standpoint of fidelty of appearance. - Photographic devices can be used for entertainment, documentation - Mobile Photography - is taking pictures using a mobile phone. - it is a whole new type or style of photography that has emerged as a result of significant advances in smartphone - Photojournalism - this type of photo is used in joumalism. - There are photos that accompany narratives in the newspapers - Digital Art - is an art form that uses digital technology ### Different Types Of Digital Art - ELECTRONIC-AIDED DIGITAL ART - Digital art was raised a step higher by the Yuchengco Museum in collaboration wa Samsung Electronics Philippines - a leading Korean electronics company, when they collaborated with artists on an exhibition of art with the intervention of technology. -An example is the relief sculpture by Leeroy New, - NONFIGURATIVE DIGITAL ART - disregard figures and any semblance to nature, naturalism, and realism - They use geometric shapes, lines, spaces, movement, and color in their art composition. - FANTASY DIGITAL ART - artists create worlds, universes, imaginary creatures and combine colors that can transport the viewer to another world that seem boundless and immensely broad. - They take inspiration from myths, legends, fantasy stories or create their own visual - DIGITAL ART AS DESIGN - There is a great demand for digital art from the business and commercial industry - Contemporary art design is popular among people in urban places. ### Masks - are believed to have magical powers. - They can serve as dwelling for ancestral spirits or can be put on the door to ward off evil spirits - In Bacolod, the masks are theatrical, comic, colorful, and combined with painted objects ### The Gallinera - The GALLINERA was a long chair with the bottom used to cage roosters ### Ito Kish - ITO KISH is an interior designer as well as a furniture designer ### Ilocos, Abel Fabrics - ILOCOS,ABEL FABRICS designed with geometric patterns ### Ikat - IKAT is a style of weaving that uses dyeing process before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design. It is mostly practiced in Cordillera by the Ifugaos and the ethnic groups in Mindanao ### Pearls - PEARLS are abundant in the southern part of the country. ### Footwear - Indigenous materials such as beads, crochet, rattan ### In Bohol - In Bohol, RAPIA makes good material for bottle holders ### Lampshades - Lampshades can be made from native plants such as BURI AND ABACA. Cebu artist MONA ALCUDIA ### Coffee Painting - Brown powder coffee can be used for painting. ### Tuba Painting - Tuba painter DANTE ENAGE collaborated with German artist Alfred Banze and Balay Kalamragan ("House of Enlightenment in the Waray language) ### Soil Art - Soil can be painted on when put on a canvas using adhesive. Set on a background of seemingly banig-woven wall, ADELFA KINUYOG used complimentary colors blended with gray. ### Tattoo Art - TATTOO is a traditional decorative body art popular in the northern region. - JEAN PIERRE LAO, also known as DYANI, is a tattoo artist who spearheaded the Philippine tattoo movement. ### Lino Brocka - • Lino Brocka - In 1983, he founded the organization Concemed Artists of the Philippines (CAP) ### Ishmael Bernal - • Ishmael Bernal - Manila film maker, is noted for his melodramas, particularly with feminist and moral issues. (HIMALA) ### Cholo Lanrel - •Cholo Laurel - Commercial director of San Juan, Manila, made a name for himself in the industry through his first feature film, Nasaan Ka Man (2005), which received awards as Best in Story, Screenplay, Picture, and Direction in 2005 from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and the Gawad Tanglaw ng Lahi. The film features a love story in the midst of a family full of secrets ### Neil Sanorio - • Neil Sanorio - From Butuan, in his short film, Chasing Summer (2013), shows memories of love and the courtship between. two people. ### Performance Art - Artists engaged in performance art conceptualize their act in relation to the minimal props needed to get a concept, an idea, or an advocacy across - They use the basic elements of time, space, the performers body - THEATER, as a form of art, uniquely employs a specific language that applies to visual and auditory elements. - A PERFORMANCE is based on dramatic text staged using techniques of theater production and enacted and interpreted by artists, directors, designers and other personnel - The four basic theater stages are the following 1. PROSCENIUM OR PICTURE FRAME STAGE 2. ARENA OR CIRCLE STAGE, 3. THRUST STAGE is with three-quarter-seating arranged in a semi-circle that encloses the stage 4. CREATED AND FOUND STAGE space can be any kind of structure that maintains its original architectural elements
