Constructing Table of Specifications ASSESSMENT IN LEARNING 1 JAN S. DEL ROSARIO Table of Specifications ❖ blueprint of a test/ guide for writing items ❖ A chart which describes the topics to be covered by a test and the number of items or points which will be associated with each topic. ❖ Mehrens and Lehmann (1993) view table of specifications as a (blue print) of a test, the content areas to be covered and the relative emphasis to be placed on each areas and instructional objectives. Table of Specifications ❖ Ughamadu (2000) stated that a table of specification or test blue print is a device that enables the teacher to arrive at a representative sample of the instructional objectives and the subject matter treated in the class. Purpose of Table of Specification ❑ identify the achievement domains being measured and to ensure that a fair and representative sample of questions appear on the test ❑ A Table of Specifications allows the teacher to construct a test which focuses on the key areas and weights those different areas based on their importance. A Table of Specifications provides the teacher with evidence that a test has content validity, that it covers what should be covered. Steps in Constructing a Table of Specifications ✓ List down the topics for inclusion in the test. ✓ Determine the objectives to be assessed by the test ✓ Determine the Test Type to be used. ✓ Specify the number of days/hours spent in teaching a particular topic. Steps in Constructing a ✓ Determine the objectives to be Table of assessed by the test Specifications Steps in Constructing a Table of Specifications ✓ Determine percentage allocation of the test items for each of the topics covered. number of hours taught % for a topic = Total number of hours spent X 100 Steps in Constructing a Table of Specifications ✓ Determine the number of the items for each topic. This can be done by multiplying the percentage allocation for each topic by the total number of items to be constructed. ✓ Specify the number of days/hours spent in teaching a particular topic. ✓ Determine percentage allocation of the test items for each of the topics covered. ✓ Determine the number of the items for each topic. Steps in Constructing a Table of Specifications ✓ Distribute the numbers/items following recommended appropriate proportions of LOTS/HOTS.
