**CLEd 12 Reviewer (3^rd^ Quarter)** **\*Theology of the Body** -- A series of scriptural reflections about human dignity and sexuality made by Pope John Paul II. **\*First of all, what is Theology?** Theo means *God* and Logos means *The Study of*. Therefore, **Theology** is the study of God. The **Theology of the Body** is the study of God of the body. **What does it mean?** In simple terms, it means finding for oneself what it means to be a human and to live a life of fulfillment. It also reminds us to take care of our own bodies because it is sacred and a temple of the Holy Spirit. **\*Human Dignity** implies the reality that we are created in the image and likeness of God. Also, in connection with human dignity, there are different states of man that occurred before, during, and after sin. These are the following: 1. **Original Man** -- The state of man before the fall. 2. **Historical Man** -- The state of man after the fall to the return of Christ. 3. **Eschatological Man** -- The state of man after the return of Christ. Body and soul united as one. **\***Because of sin made by Adam and Eve, we became far from the grace of God. This sin is called **Original Sin** in which results in disorder and **concupiscence** (an inclination to sin). **\*Faith, Hope, and Love** -- The three theological virtues according to St. Paul. **\***In choosing **a celibate life**, one must forego marriage and fulfill the mission of Christ and the Church. **\***There are different vocations in life. You can start a family, be a part of a religious congregation, or be single-blessedness. Either of the three, you can partake at the mission of Christ and the Church. **\*Humanae Vitae** is one of the teachings of the church regarding birth control. **\***Pope John Paul II affirms that no person lives in isolation and we are all **communion of persons**. Therefore, we thrive in love that is **free**, **faithful**, **total**, and **fruitful**. Again, no man is an island and as Aristotle said that man by nature is a social animal. Also, as **St. Thomas Aquinas** stated: love is willing the good of another person. Meaning, we must not expect nothing in return and we just help accordingly. **\***Therefore, we must avoid being **lustful**. Because this is a distortion of the heart of every person and a corruption of one's body and actions. People are not objects. We all have rights and responsibilities for each other.
