Instructor INTRODUCTION Chapter 2 consists of 2 lessons.  Lesson 1 is focused on the demands of society from the teacher as a professional. It discusses the professional competencies that a teacher ought to demonstrate.  Four models of effective teaching are used to present these professional competencies.  It also presents the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers in the Philippines, which are again presented in Chapter 6 in relation to Competency Framework and Standards for Teachers Qualification. INTRODUCTION Chapter 2 consists of 2 lessons.  Lesson 2 is a discussion on the demands of society from the teacher as a person.  It presents personal qualities expected of a teacher anchored on professionalism as contained in the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers both past and present. The teacher's role extends beyond delivering subject content, shaping how students view themselves, others, and the world around them. The Teacher as Professional THE TEACHER AS PROFESSIONAL  Have Preparations to earn a teacher education degree recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).  Passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) administered by the Board for Professional Teachers with the supervision of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).  Obtained a license renewable every three years provided that he/she can show proof of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). THE TEACHER AS PROFESSIONAL  Expected to abide by the Code of Ethics for Professional Teacher.  Violation can be a ground for the revocation of license.  Ensures professional practice with technical and ethical and moral competence. THE DEMAND FROM THE TEACHER AS A PROFESSIONAL THE DEMAND FROM THE TEACHER AS A PROFESSIONAL The word teacher suggests that the responsibility of the professional teachers is to teach. The teacher`s primary customer is the learner. Effective teaching - the professional teacher`s primary responsibility. THE DEMAND FROM THE TEACHER AS A PROFESSIONAL ✓ The demand from the teacher as a professional is shaped by the diverse and evolving needs of modern education. ✓ Teachers are expected to meet high standards of competence, ethics, and continuous improvement while adapting to the challenges of today's classrooms. MODELS OF EFFECTIVE TEACHING Models of Effective Teaching Models of effective teaching are structured frameworks or approaches that guide educators in designing and delivering instruction to maximize student learning. These models provide teachers with strategies to engage learners, facilitate deeper understanding, and assess progress effectively. 4 Models of Teacher Effectiveness 1. Robert Marzano`s Causal Teacher Evaluation Model 2. Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching 3. James Stronge - Teacher Effectiveness Performance Evaluation System (TEPES) System 4. The McRel Model (Mid-Continent Research for Education and Learning) To teach effectively he/she has to: ❑ Prepare and plan very well for instruction. ❑ Execute or deliver that instruction plan very well (Mastery of Subject Matter) ❑ Create conducive or favorable learning environment ❑ Assess and report learners progress ❑ Demonstrate professionalism when dealing superiors, colleagues, students and parents.
