Responsible Parenthood 2 Lesson Responsible Parenthood and 1 Reproductive Health Act What I Need to Know After going through this module, you will be able to: 1. recognize the different reproductive health and AIDS prevention Acts; 2. appreciate the role of responsible parenthood in one’s life; and 3. design an awareness program to help teenagers be aware of such Acts. Write them in the circles. 3 What’s New & What is It The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act builds its foundation on four pillars: 1. Informed Choice- The government shall promote and provide unbiased information and services. This pillar also covers the provision and integration of productive health and sexuality education in schools, and other educational settings. 2. Respect for Life- the act recognizes that abortion is illegal and punishable by law. 3. Birth Control- Reproductive healthcare information and supplies shall be made available most especially to poor beneficiaries. 4. Responsible Parenthood- couples determine their ideal family size. Also, the government shall equip each parent with needed information in all aspects of family life, reproductive health, and responsible parenthood. Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 officially designated as Republic Act No. 10354. Provides for maternal and child healthcare, family planning, and responsible parenthood. Reproductive Health- it also concerns problems such as sexually transmitted infections. The Republic Act No. 8504 or the Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998 was passed by Congress on July 28, 1997 HIV is highly infectious through unprotected sexual intercourse, breastfeeding (of an infected mother to infant), and blood transfusion/injecting drugs (needles used for infected patients). Currently, there are several treatment options for HIV and AIDS, but no known cure yet. The Act promulgates “policies and prescribing measures for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the Philippines, instituting a nationwide HIV/AIDS information and educational program, establishing a comprehensive HIV./AIDS monitoring system, strengthening the Philippine National AIDS Council, and for other purposes” ( ENAC) The Act also provides for education dissemination in various institutions and agencies, safe practice and procedure (testing, screening, and counseling) in health organizations and associations, monitoring of cases with confidentiality, and programs for anti-discriminatory acts ( in the workplace, hospitals, and other public institution). 4 TRUE OR FALSE Directions: Write True if it is according to the policy, and False if it is not. __________ 1. Total 50 Lesson Tobacco Regulation act of 2 2003 What I Need to Know After going through this module, you will be able to: 1. familiarize the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003; 2. explain the health benefits of smoking; and 3. illustrate the effect of smoking on one’s health and body. What’s In Why do teenagers smoke? Do you think these reasons put your health at risk? Why or why not? 6 What’s New & What is it Republic Act No. 9211 otherwise known as The Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 which protects people from the sale, use, and advertisements of hazardous tobacco products. To promote a healthy environment, the act bans smoking in public places. It is also banned in the center of youth activities, elevators, and stairwells. It also includes fire-hazardous places, within public and private hospitals and medical clinics, airport and other terminals, and food preparation areas. In this light, a designated smoking and non-smoking area should be utilized. The Act also restricts access to the sale of tobacco products to minors. Tobacco may not be put in a vending machine, unless it verifies ages, and may not be sold within a hundred meters of a school. Should tobacco be sold, there should be proper signage that indicates target consumers. When it comes to advertising and promotions, the Act provisions the printing of warnings on cigarette packs in either Filipino or English. Besides, health warnings should also be included. Lastly, the government should provide programs and projects for those who shall be affected by the passing of the Act. One example of which is the tobacco growers. The act provisions the establishment of a cooperative and assistance program for the said people. Tobacco- (Nicotiana tabacum) is an herbaceous plant that can only be found in cultivation and then processed into either a herbal plant or tobacco. Majority of crimes commited are drug related. Thus, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Acts of 2002 (RA 1965) was created. Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 protects citizens from the harmful effects of dangerous drugs to their physical and mental well- being. According to the policy, here are some which are considered as unlawful acts and are subject to penalties and fines. a. Importing of dangerous drugs and/or controlled precursors and essential chemicals (narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances) Penalty: life imprisonment to death Fine: P500,000.00 to 10,000,000.00) 9 b. Selling, trading, administering, dispensing, delivering, distributing, and transporting dangerous drugs and/or controlled precursors and essential chemical (Penalty: life imprisonment to death Fine: P500,000 to P10,000,000) c. Maintaining a drug den, dive, or resort (Penalty: life imprisonment to death Fine: P500,000.00 10,000,000.00) d. Manufacturing of dangerous drugs and/or controlled precursors and essential chemicals (Penalty: life imprisonment to death Fine: P500,000.00 10,000,000.00) e. Manufacturing or delivery of equipment, instrument, apparatus, or other paraphernalia for dangerous drugs and/or controlled precursors and essential chemicals. (Penalty: of imprisonment ranging from twelve (12) years and one (1) day to twenty (20) years and a fine ranging from One hundred thousand pesos (P100,000.00) to Five hundred thousand pesos (P500,000.00). f. Possessing dangerous drugs, equipment, instrument, apparatus, or other paraphernalia. (Penalty: Imprisonment of 6 Months & 1 day to 4 years Fine: P10,000 to 50,000) g. Possessing dangerous drugs during parties, social gatherings, or meetings. The penalty of imprisonment ranging from six (6) months and one (1) day to four (4) years and a fine ranging from Ten thousand pesos (P10,000.00) to Fifty thousand pesos (P50,000.00) h. Cultivating or culturing plants classified as dangerous drugs or sources of such (Penalty: life imprisonment to death Fine: P500,000 to P10,000,000) i. Unnecessary prescribing dangerous drugs. The penalty of imprisonment ranging from twelve (12) years and one (1) day to twenty (20) years and a fine ranging from One hundred thousand pesos (P100,000.00) to Five hundred thousand pesos (P500,000.00) On the other hand, the government also regulates these gateway drugs through the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and the Tobacco Regulation Act.
