Evaluate the DEN 020 (Oral Histology and Embryology) Student REFERENCES: Activity Sheets. BSCS Science Learning. 2011. Assessment Rubric for Instructional Materials. www.BSCS.org PRODUCTIVITY TIP: Good day stuDENTIST! You are about to start your module. Do short stretching and breathing exercises. After you are done, sit down, be comfortable and say a short prayer. You are now ready to start your work. Enjoy and learn! A. LESSON PREVIEW / REVIEW Introduction (2 minutes) Welcome to DEN 020 (Oral Histology and Embryology)! This is the last student activity sheet you will do for this semester. Thank you for taking DEN 020 (Oral Histology and Embryology) and see you in the higher courses as you further your dental education. Before you go, I would like you to evaluate the student activity sheets you used this semester. Your evaluation will greatly help us as we further this way of teaching the course and for future student learning. Thank you very much and see you in the future. Activity 1: What I Know Chart, part 1 (3 minutes) What I Know Guide Questions: What I Learned (Activity 4) 1. What benefits do you think would evaluating these activity sheets have? 2. What disadvantages do you think would evaluating these activity sheets have? 3. Do you see the use of these activity sheets in the future? B. MAIN LESSON This document is the property of PHINMA EDUCATION DEN 020: Oral Histology and Embryology Student Activity Sheet #21 Name: ____________________________________________________________ Class number: _______ Section: ____________ Schedule: _____________________________________ Date: _______________ Activity 2: Content Notes (13 minutes) Assessment Rubric for Instructional Materials The rubric below is built around the following initial ideas: Students need to know up front where they are going, so students should be clear on learning outcomes. Students should know what achievement of the outcomes looks like, so students should be clear on indicators of success. Students should see a path through the arc of lessons to achieve the learning outcomes with benchmarks along the way, so they develop improved sense of internal locus of control. Students should be asked to articulate their initial ideas about a major scientific concept. (formative assessment) Students should be asked to compare their original thinking to their developing understanding in the Explain. (formative assessment) Students should be asked to demonstrate their understandings and abilities in the evaluate. (summative assessment) Students receive feedback from self, peer, and teacher in the Evaluate. Activity 3: Skill-building Activities (with answer key) (18 minutes + 2 minutes checking) Read the Assessment Rubric for Instructional Materials found below. Fill out the blanks spaces provided for each tasks needed to be done. There is no right or wrong answer in this task. Please answer as honestly as you can. Good Luck and Enjoy! Instructions: Read each Element on the leftmost box and check ( / ) on the number boxes that would correspond to your appropriate choice It would be appreciated if you write comment/s on the rightmost box. The numbers correspond to these choice of answers: 1 (Not at all), 2 (Somewhat) and 3 (Very well) Element 1 2 3 Comment/s 1a. The materials explicitly identify the learning goals for students and ask students to examine and consider those learning goals at the beginning of the unit 1b. The materials support teachers in helping students identify, examine, and consider learning goals. The materials explicitly provide students with a “pathway” through the arc of lessons with benchmarks for success. The pathway clearly indicates to students how the learning outcomes will be achieved through the lesson arc. Students are asked to examine and consider the learning pathway and benchmarks during the chapter. 2b. The materials support teachers in helping students identify the learning “pathway” and benchmarks for success. 3a. The materials ask students to articulate their initial ideas about the major scientific concept of the unit in the Engage and/or Explore. 3b. The materials support teachers in helping students articulate their initial ideas. 4a. The materials ask students to compare their developing understanding of the major scientific concept with their initial ideas, and to consider their movement toward the learning outcomes in the Explain. 4b. The materials support teachers in helping students compare their developing understanding with their initial ideas. 5a. The materials ask students to demonstrate their understandings and abilities associated with the major concept of the unit in the Evaluate. 5b. The materials support teachers in helping students demonstrate their abilities and understandings. 6a. The materials offer opportunities for students to receive self, peer, and teacher assessment across the chapter. 6b. The materials provide the teacher with instructions on what to do with student data from assessments. Activity 4: What I Know Chart, part 2 (2 minutes) Go back to the “What I Know Chart” in Activity 1 and answer the “What I Learned” column.
