DESIGNING TASKS & ACTIVITIES FOR SPEAKING SKILL PRINCIPLES IN TEACHING SPEAKING 1. Speaking is a productive skill, but children usually feel not ready to speak up. 2. Short practice activities help children build productive language to use. 3. Children need experience on different tasks to make them improve their skill. 4. Teachers should consider children’s developmental stage and their level in setting speaking activities. PRINCIPLES IN TEACHING SPEAKING 5. Provide children with language needed (vocabulary) before the speaking. 6. Teachers should design authentic activities like role play, dialogues based on real life conversations. 7. Be aware of children’s pronunciation. 8. Speaking is not an individual skill. 9. When the class is too noisy in speaking activity, do not shout at them. SPEAKING ACTIVITIES 1.
