U R I N A RY By Savannah D, Dia B, Sasha M. Urinary The urinary system works as your body’s filtration system. When your urinary system removes toxins and wastes from your body, it comes out as urine. To be able to pee, your body must pass this waste through a series of organs, ducts and tubes. If there’s a problem at any step in this process, it can affect if you’re able to pee normally. The Main Organs - Two kidneys(blood filtering) - Two ureters(ducts that connect your kidneys to your bladder) - A blader(organ that holds the urine) - Urethra(tube connected to your bladder that allows the urine to leave your body) What It Does For You The urinary system filters and removes blood and wastes from the body in the form of urine. It stores and carries urine until it leaves the body through the urethra. It gets rid of what your body doesn't need. Such as remove liquid waste from the blood through urine, maintain a balance of salts in the blood, and produce erythropoietin.(Eh-ri-thruh-poy-tin) Infections Cystitis- Infection of the bladder. Cystitis is the most common lower urinary tract infection , 2-17.3% of women have this Urethritis- Infection of the urethra which is the tube that lets urine leave your body Pyelonephritis- Infection of your kidneys, this happens when bacteria gets into the kidney Different Urine Colors Light yellow/white- This color means you are very well hydrated and drank LOTS of water. Yellow- This color means your healthy and your body is working good, it also means your hydrated. Dark yellow- This color means you need to drink more water and you are dehydrated. Brown- This means you are VERY dehydrated, and could have some liver and kidney problems.
