Dentulous: A condition in which natural teeth are present in the mouth. Edentulous: A condition in which the mouth is without teeth. Partially edentulous: A condition in which some natural teeth are lost Dentulous & Edentulous (Completely or Partially edentulous) Definitions: Denture: An artificial substitute for missing natural teeth and adjacent tissues. Complete denture: A dental prosthesis that replaces the entire natural dentition (complete loss of natural teeth)and its associated structures of the mandible and / or the maxilla. Partial denture: A dental prosthesis that replaces one or more but less than all the natural teeth and its associates structures and that is supported by teeth and or the mucosa. Denture surfaces (3 surfaces) A- Basal (impression surface) the denture that has its contour determined by the impression. B- Denture polished surface the denture surface that extends from the borders of the denture and includes the facial, lingual and palatal surfaces facing lips, checks and tongue. C- Denture occlusal surface the denture surface that makes contact or near contact with its antagonist. Denture borders: the margin of the denture base at the junction of the polished surface and the impression surface. Denture flanges: the vertical extensions of the denture base that extend from the cervical ends of the teeth to the borders of the denture are called denture flanges. A- buccal flange: the portion of the flange of a denture that occupies the buccal vestibule. B- Labial flange: the portion of the flange of a denture that occupies the labial vestibule. C- Lingual flange: the portion of the flange of a denture that occupies the lingual vestibule.
