Paor, James V. BSEE 1C GE LEC 1 - Activity 1 1\) Identify a major local, national, or global environmental problem, and describe the role of population growth in this problem. Climate change is a significant global environmental issue worsened by population growth. As the global population increases, so does demand for resources such as energy, water, and food. Additionally, the demand for resources like fossil fuels and deforestation for agriculture rises, leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions and habitat destruction. 2\) Is it rational for a poor couple in a developing country such as Philippines to have four or five children? Explain. It may not be rational for a poor couple in a developing country like the Philippines to have four or five children, as it can strain their resources further and limit their ability to provide adequate food, education, and healthcare for each child. Family planning and smaller family sizes may help in ensuring a better quality of life for all family members. 3\) Do you believe that the population is too high in (a) the world (b) the Philippines, and (c) the area where you live? Explain. \(a) World: Yes, the world is highly populated with a population as of 2024 of 8.1 billion where the optimum population enough to guarantee a decent life to everyone is only 2 billion people. The Earth faces challenges related to food security, water scarcity, and habitat destruction, exacerbated by an increasing population. \(b) Philippines: Yes, the population, as of 2024 is over 119 million with 300,000 km^2^, hence the population density is 397 people per square kilometer, that is putting a strain on resources, social services, and the environment, particularly in urban areas. \(c) Local Area: yes, because the population in Labo, Camarines Norte according to 2020 Census is 109,245 with 190 km^2^, therefore the population density is 575 people per square kilometer. 4\) If you have given a chance to pass a law in promoting to slow the growth of human population, what will be the title and its rationale?  Title: The Sustainable Population Growth Act Rationale: This act aims to promote sustainable population growth by incentivizing family planning, education, and access to contraceptives. By ensuring smaller family sizes, we can reduce strain on resources, improve individuals\' quality of life, and protect the environment for future generations.
