# Temporary Extra Duty Police Job Assignment Procedures - Signing up for any temporary extra duty job will be done on a voluntary basis only. - Once the member has voluntarily signed up for the job, they will be responsible for the job. - The Miami Police Department shall not draft its members to fill temporary jobs. ## Temporary Extra Duty Job Approval - All temporary jobs must be submitted to the Special Events Unit by the person requesting the job (applicant). - The applicant must complete the Application for Volunteer Extra Duty Police Services form in the Special Events Unit or online. - All temporary extra duty jobs must be approved by the Neighborhood Commander of the area where the job will take place. - Once the temporary job is approved by the Neighborhood Commander, the job will be entered into Extra Duty Trak by a member of the Special Events Unit. - A surcharge voucher will be issued to the applicant or Temporary Coordinator, who must pay the surcharge at the City of Miami Cashier, located at the Miami Riverside Center (MRC) 444 SW 2 Avenue, 4th floor, prior to the job receiving a final approval. - Only when the surcharge is paid, will the temporary extra duty job receive a final approval and be opened on Extra Duty Trak. - Any exceptions to the prepayment of the surcharges for temporary extra duty jobs must be approved by the Special Events Commanding Officer. ## Member Responsibilities for Temporary Extra Duty Jobs - Members desiring to work temporary extra duty police jobs must electronically register for the job using Extra Duty Trak. - Members are prohibited from signing up for other members. - In some instances, members of the Special Events Unit may take telephone requests for jobs. - While signing for a job, members are required to provide valid direct phone number(s). ## Replacement Members for Temporary Extra Duty Jobs - In the event that the member who originally signed up for a job is unable to work, the member is permitted to find a replacement of the same rank for the job. - In instances where the same rank is not available, the replacement may be one rank higher in conformance with this order. - Either the scheduled member or the replacement member must notify the Special Events Unit, in writing, of the changes prior to the commencement of the job. ## Reporting Problems or Changes at the Job Site - Members must report all problems or changes at the job site immediately or as soon as practical to the Special Events Unit. ## Extended Job Shift Times - In the event the extra duty job is extended longer than fifteen minutes beyond the scheduled time, members will be required to collect surcharges, rounded to the next half hour for the extra time worked. ## Special Request Temporary Jobs - Members may not solicit jobs from private employers, however, they may bring jobs into the Special Events Unit, which are given directly to them by a private employer. - In these special request cases, the requesting officer becomes the temporary coordinator for that specific job. ### Requirements for Special Request Temporary Jobs - Any special request temporary job brought into the Special Events Unit by an officer must have the prior approval of the Neighborhood Commander. - A member of the Special Events Unit will enter the member's name working the job into Extra Duty Trak. - The temporary coordinator will be responsible to ensure that all members assigned to work the job are in compliance with this order (single officer, supervisors, rank, payment, etc.).
