Lesson 4.3 Delegation Organization and Management General Academic Strand | Accountancy, Business, and Management The person in charge has to do everything that is required to achieve the company’s outlined goals and objectives. 2 As future managers, we have to recognize that one individual cannot do everything and make decisions for every situation 3 Thus, this calls for an action to give other individuals the authority to make decisions and perform certain functions. In business 4 Delegation What is Delegation? It is the process of handing over to a subordinate some parts of the job that a superior is expected to do. It occurs at all levels in an organization. 5 Delegation When managers delegate tasks, there is a corresponding accountability that goes with it. 6 Delegation Reasons to Delegate 1. Delegation helps spread workload. 2. Delegation helps free executives from use of time for valuable matters. 3. Delegation increases job satisfaction. 7 Delegation Reasons to Delegate 4. It enables employees to feel valuable in the organization. 5. It is essential for employee development. 6. It gives managers an opportunity to develop new solutions and better ways to do the task. 8 Delegation For the delegation to be successfully realized, elements of delegation should be always present. 9 Delegation Authority It is the power of an individual to make decisions, give orders, and enforce obedience. 10 Delegation Responsibility This refers to the work or task assigned to an individual. It is the duty that an individual is expected to do. 11 Delegation Accountability It is an ownership of an individual to his or her actions. It pertains to the level of commitment an individual has to a particular task. 12 The Delegation Process 13 Delegation It always begins with identifying individuals who are capable of carrying out the responsibilities in the tasks needed to be done. The manager then transfers the authority to the subordinate whom he or she assigned the job. 14 Delegation Subordinates should acknowledge and accept the task bestowed upon them for the delegation to be successful. Accountability is observed once a job has been completed or the tasks have been fulfilled. 15 Departmentalization Organizations can also be divided into smaller and flexible functional administrative units.
