INTRODUCTION TO TOURISM MARKETING CONCEPTS Tourism Sales and Marketing Term 1 | SY 2024 - 2025 National University College of Tourism and Hospitality Management Prof. Joseph Mendez THE MARKETPLACE: There are two players who interact in the marketplace the buyer and the seller. Such players gather in order to facilitate the exchange of goods and services It can be a physical space It can also be a virtual space SETTING THE CONTEXT: Is there really a need for a marketplace? Is it necessary? Do we stand to benefit from having it? Who is the bigger player – the buyer or the seller? What is meant by the word “motivation”? The Cambridge Dictionary defines it as: the need or reason for doing something the willingness to do something OR something that causes such willingness Understanding Motivations: Abraham Maslow (1943) Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs explains and identifies what pushes people to take action (“the need or reason for doing something”).
