Answer: make sure car is on park or neutral, fix your seat to reach pedals, fix side mirrors so you don’t have to lean forward or back, put your seatbelt on and make sure your passengers do so also. What are the equipment requirement for windshields and side windows? Answer: safety glass, cannot be covered by anything (example→ stickers) that will jeopardize the transparency view. Side windows→ cannot be composed or covered by any material which has highly reflective or mirror like appearance that reflects more than 25% of the light. What are the bumper height requirements? Is it the same for every car? Answer: cars less than 2500 lbs- 22 inches all around front and back bumper. Cars between 2500lbs-3499lbs- 24 inches front/ and 26 inches back bumper Cars weighting more than 3500lbs- 27 inches front/ 29 inches back bumper What must you do when you are pulling a load of material on your car which can fall or blow away on the road? Answer: you must use a close-fitting cover to avoid it from blowing away to the road. What is ABS? Anti-lock brake System? A braking system in the car that will help you steer out of danger by pressing down hard on the brake pedal by holding it. In an emergency it will automatically pump the brakes faster rate than the driver would. What happens if your load extends more than 4 feet from your car? And what should you use to mark in in the daytime and at night? Answer: day time- red flags 18 inches square. Night time- 2 red lamps visible from at least 500 sqft. Why is drowsy driving dangerous? Answer: it is dangerous as drunk driving. It can slow down thought process and reaction time, affect judgement and vision, cause dowsing off/ or falling completely asleep. What should you do if another driver is intentionally driving dangerous around you? (Road rage→angry behavior by a driver which can result in a crash. You must remain calm and try to put as much distance between you and them as possible. Slow down and let them pass. If u need help dial 911. What are the 3 main categories of distracted driving? *visual [taking your eyes off the road] *manual [taking your hands off the wheel] *cognitive [thinking about anything other than driving aka day dreaming] Why is texting one of the most dangerous distracting driving behavior? TEXTING→ because it involves all 3 types of distractions making it the most dangerous of distracted driving. It is illegal to text & drive: Can anyone drink and drive safely? No because alcohol reduces all skills to drive safely. What skills? Judgement, reaction, vision, and concentration. Judgement and vision is affected after drinking alcohol which one is affected first? Judgement What can happen to you if you crash and you are not wearing a seatbelt? Seatbelts save lives. If you decide not to wear it, you can be ejected from the car, be thrown against other passengers, or your wheel or even the windshield. What age are children required to be in a car seat? In a car seat and booster seat? Children under the age of 4 must be in a car seat aka “safety seat” at all times. Children that are 4 and 5 must be either in a car seat or a booster seat. If a cop pulls you over and the front seat passenger is under 18 not wearing a seat belt, who will be charged with a seat belt violation? The driver will. The law requires that all front seat passengers and all passengers under 18 wear seat belts. Who does not have to wear a seatbelt? What does a single broken white light on the highway mean? A single broken white light means you may cross this line to change lanes when it is safe to do so. A double yellow line in the highway means cars moving in either direction must NOT PASS or CROSS these lines unless they are making a left when it is safe to do so. What does a Solid White Line mean? The first car to reach the intersection is the one to move first. If two cars arrived at the same time, each driver must yield to the drivers on their right. What does a red traffic light mean? What does a flashing red traffic light mean? A red traffic light means you come to a complete stop at the white line (aka stop line). Remain stopped until a light turns green. A Flashing red traffic light means the same thing as a stop sign. After a full stop at a red traffic light when may a driver turn right? The driver may turn right if there is no a NO TURN ON RED sign and of course when the way is clear. What does a green arrow showing at the same time as a red traffic light mean you can do? The green arrow means that you must be in the proper lane for such a turn. What does a flashing yellow light mean? Its purpose is to be use at or just before a dangerous intersection. Example🡪 warning sign such as school crossing or sharp curve ahead. If you are approaching a crossing railroad crossing that does not have gates or lights and you see a train coming, what should you do? You must stop within 50 feet. The 3 point turn is needed to turn around in a very small space. You should only do it when the road is too narrow for a UTURN. You should never do a 3 point turn on a curve, a hill, the highway, or where there is a sign that prohibits U-TURNS. What is an open intersection? When must you yield right of way? An open intersection is one without traffic control signs or signals. When you enter an open intersection, you must yield and give the right of way to a car already in the intersection, or you enter or cross a highway from a secondary road, or you enter a paved road from an unpaved road or lastly you plan to make a left turn and a car is approaching from the opposite direction. When may you drive in the left lane of a road with two lanes? In a two lane highway you must always drive in the right lane unless you are passing (where permitted) And with four lanes? If the road has 4 lanes with 2 way traffic, it is the same as two lanes you can only go on the left side when passing. What does it mean if you see red reflectors on the lane lines facing you? What is the recommended safe following distance? Following distance is the space between you and the car in front of you. You must keep a following distance of 4 seconds during normal weather and traffic conditions. When should you increase your following distance? You should increase your following distance during unusual weather or traffic conditions. Gain more space in your following distance in the situations like: rain, wet road, when being passed, when carrying a heavy load or pulling a trailer, motorcycles, emergency cars, school buses/ city buses and cars carrying hazardous material are required to stop when cross railroads, trucks that have limited view and will not be able to see you when you are directly behind them. What are blind spots? Blind spots are areas near the left and right corners of your car. You won’t be able to see the cars in the side mirrors. It is recommended to turn your head when changing lanes on a highway or to pass on any road to make sure these areas are clear. How do you check your blind spots when you are preparing to change lanes or turns? Turn your head to make sure. Where is it illegal to overtake and pass? You must not pass where there is a 1) single solid line, or double-sided solid line dividing lanes. 2) double sided yellow line is solid in your lane, 3) on hills or curves where you cannot see 500 feet ahead. 4) within 100 feet of a bridge, tunnel, intersection, 5) when a school bus is stopped and the stop sign is extended 6) at crosswalks where a car has stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross. If you have a manual transmission and you park uphill you must put the car on first gear (1st gear) and if you are parking downhill, you must shift to reverse. As far for automatic transmission; you put it on PARK no matter what. Where is parking prohibited? You are not allowed to park in crosswalks, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, intersections, bridges, tunnels, yellow painted curves, highway pavement. Also→ you cannot park 15 feet from a fire hydrant, 20 feet of an intersection, or 20 feet of the entrance to a fire, ambulance, or rescue station. As well as 30 feet of a rural mailbox on state highway, 30 feet of any flashing signal, stop sign, or traffic signal as well as 50 feet from a railroad crossing. The minimum distance a motorist must give when traveling next to a cyclist is 3 feet and they must be using caution/slow speed when driving alongside or passing them. As a motorist, what should you do when preparing to turn right on a roadway with a bike lane? When a motorist is preparing to turn right, the motorist must yield to any bicyclist in the bike lane and make the turn behind the bicyclist. When on the roadway, do motorcyclists and moped riders have the same rights and responsibilities as motor vehicle drivers? Yes motorcycle and moped drivers have the same rights and duties as drivers of motor vehicles. Riders committing traffic violations may receive citations. If you are driving a motor vehicle, are you allowed to share a lane with a motorcyclists? You must never attempt to share the lane with a motorcycle. The motorcyclist is entitled to the entire lane. When a school bus is stopped to unload children on a highway divided with a raised barrier, are cars traveling in the opposite direction required to stop? Vehicles behind the bus must stop. Crossing guards are the first to enter and last to exit a crosswalk. They are there to indicate that pedestrians, especially children are about to cross or are crossing. When children or school crossing guards are present in a crosswalk, you must yield and stop at a stop line and not in the crosswalk. 57) what must you do if an emergency car with activated lights or sirens is approaching you from behind? You must yield the right of way to emergency vehicles using sirens or flashing lights. You must pull over to the closest edge or the roadway immediately and stop until the emergency car has passed. You must dim your high beams headlights within 300 feet if the car ahead of you. 62) Within how many feet of an oncoming car should you dim your high beam headlights? You should dim your high beam headlights within 500 feet of an oncoming car. 63) when driving in the rain, fog, or smoke in the daytime, what lights should you use? You should use your headlights in those kind of situations. 64) What should you do when driving on wet roads in the rain? Why? When you are driving on wet roads, you should slow down! Roads become slick and wet road conditions will increase your braking/ stopping distance, so be sure to increase following distance. 65) What should you do if your right wheels go off the pavement while driving? You should take your foot off the gas pedal, hold the wheel firmly and steer it in a straight line, brake lightly, wait until the road is clear and get back on the pavement at a slow speed (signal your intention) 66) What should you do if your tires begin to skid while driving? Take your foot off the gas pedal, do not use your brakes, if possible- turn the car’s front tires in the direction you want to go (steer in the direction of the skid) 67) when emergency braking, what is the difference between conventional brakes and anti lock brakes (ABS)? Conventional brakes→ you pump the brakes. ABS→ must press down hard on the brake pedal hold it, and steer out of danger. 68) what should you do during a tire blow-out? You should take your foot off the gas, do not use brakes. Slow down gradually and brake softly when the car is under control by concentrating on steering. And lastly, pull completely off the pavement/roadway. 69) what must you do if you are involved in a minor accident and your vehicle is blocking the flow of traffic? You must move it or have it moved. 70) If you hit a parked car and are unable to find the owner, what should you do? You must make every attempt to locate the owner, you must leave a note including your name/contact info and license plate number. 71) what are the penalties for leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death? It is against the law to leave the scene of an accident involving property damage, injury, or death. The penalties are the following: Death→ 1st degree felony, minimum 4 years of prison term serious bodily injury→ 2nd degree felony, Injury→ 3rd degree (all of these include losing your license for 3 years minimum) 72) What are the requirements of the No-fault Law? Florida Law requires drivers and car owners to have insurance to cover costs in case of a crash. (PIP) stands for personal injury protection and (PDL) is property damage liability. PIP covers your injuries, and PDL covers for damage to other people’s property that you caused. 73) If your license and registration are suspended for being in violation of the No-fault-law, what must you do to get them reinstated? You can get your license suspended for up to 3 years. In order to lift the suspension, you will have to get insurance and pay a reinstatement fee of $150-$500. 74) What are penalties if you are at fault in a crash and you are not insured in compliance with the Financial Responsibility Law? You may be required to pay for the damages before your driving privilege is reinstated. 75) What are the time restrictions for a driver with a learners license? 1) Must be accompanied by a licensed driver who is 21+ years. 2) Must only drive during daylight hours. 3) After having the learners license for 3 months they may drive until 10pm. 76) what are the time restrictions for a licensed driver under age 17? Under age 18? At 16 years old the driver may not drive between 11p-6am unless driving to and from work or with a licensed driver who is 21 and at 17 years old a license driver may not drive between 1a and 5am, unless to & from work or with a licensed driver who is 21. 77) When can you be charged with driving under the influence (DUI)? You may be charged with a DUI if you are found to be driving or in actual physical control of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, prescriptions, or over the counter medications. 78) What are penalties for refusing to take a blood test, a urine test, or a breath test when suspected of driving under the influence? If you refused to take these tests you will get your license suspended for one year. Why? Because of the implied consent law which you have agreed by signing your driver license to take these tests if asked. 79) What can happen if you are found guilty of racing on the highway? You license can get revoked which means (termination of driving privilege) {explain suspension, cancellation, and revocation) 80) If you have a learner’s license, how many hours of driving experience are required to earn the Class E driver license? If so, you may be asked to have your doctor complete a report form. 83) Why would one opt to take Basic Driver Improvement Course? You want to do the 4 hours BDI because it will ensure that your insurance company does not up your insurance rate and points may not be added against your driver license. You may elect this class once a year 5 times in your lifetime.
