1 COMPLICATIONS OF PREGNANCY WEEK 2 PREGNANCIES AT 2 RISK Most births are low risk, but some are categorized high risk because of WEEK 2 maternal or fetal complications. Identification of risks, with appropriate and timely intervention, prevents morbidity and mortality of mothers and infants. Those with mental health issues or difficulty accessing prenatal care are at risk. Definition and Scope 3 of the Problem Pregnancies at Risk/With WEEK 2 Complications: The life or health of the mother or fetus can be jeopardized. For the mother, at risk status arbitrarily extends through the entire postpartum period (approximately 6 weeks after childbirth). Most complications usually are resolved within 1 month of birth. Definition and Scope of the 4 Problem-con’t Pregnancies at Risk/With Complicatio At risk diagnosis imposes a WEEK 2 situational crisis on family Fear of pregnancy loss before anticipated due date A fetal or maternal diagnosis that requires a decision to continue or interrupt the pregnancy or birth of a newborn who does not meet cultural, RPN SCOPE OF 5 PRACTICE Identifying pregnancy risk factors (health assessment, interviewing) WEEK 2 ***Will not care for antenatal patients with pregnancy complications (considered too unstable) Will care for postpartum patients who have had complications during pregnancy and are now delivered and considered stable Must be able to identify if the postpartum patient is decompensating (ie. uncontrolled BP, postpartum hemorrhage, uncontrolled blood sugars) 3 major causes of maternal6 death 1.
