Your Name : _______________________ Your UIN # : _____________________ BA 100 Podcast Episode s Homework Assignment Series Episode 1: *Social/Behavioral Experiments: EYE CONTACT Experiment - Over the next week, study how you and other people use eye contact and body language in everyday situations: (at school, home, work, with friends and family, and with strangers). Intentionally experiment with eye contact in at least 5 situations, by changing what you do: Look longer or shorter, intermittently or continuously, with no expression on your face, or with a distinct facial expression while speaking and while you are silent. You can also add SUBTLE mirroring to these experiments to see if that affects your rapport with the other person. Notice what the effects of these experiments are, particularly what feels empowering or disempowering to you or others. Of course, do your experiments SAFELY, and don’t get yourself into trouble. PODCAST REFLECTION - Record an audio File and attach it to this slide which describes your eye contact experimental observations. (By selecting the “Insert” > Media tab above. Instructions are linked here.) Your recording length should be 3-5 mins. long and reflect on the following questions: 1. What happened in each of 5 situations: who/when/where/how did you experiment with eye contact? 2. What was the impact of your eye contact style in each of those situations? / What was particularly empowering or disempowering in those instances? 3. Share any interesting/surprising observations conducting these experiments.
