## Mechanisms of Drugs Absorption 1. **Simple Diffusion:** Movement of a solute through a biological barrier from the phase of higher concentration to the phase of lower concentration. No need for energy e.g. highly lipid soluble drugs. 2. **Filtration:** This is the process by which a water-soluble drug of relatively low molecular weight crosses the plasma membrane through pores e.g. urea and ethylene glycol. 3. **Facilitated Diffusion:** The passage of a drug across the biological membrane along the concentration gradient by the protein carrier-mediated system also called carrier-mediated diffusion e.g. tetracycline, pyrimidine.
